Trains are a tradition that has stood the test of time. They are a celebration to the human engineering of great machines such as the The Flying Scotsman. The building of a basic train set into a landscaped layout has provided many people with enjoyment, fulfilment and relaxation. Children and adults become mesmerised whilst watching model trains travel around a layout. Train sets have been known to travel from generation to generation as heirlooms.

SLOT CARS

Slot cars are a tradition started over 50 years ago. They were most popular in the 60's and 70's when Slot car centres sprung up all over the country. Slot cars have evolved into a popular home oriented social sport. Slot car parties and gatherings are common. Many people are reliving their childhoods with the established brands of Scalectrix and SCX.

Slot cars are available in a number of basic sets that include 2 cars, track, transformer and controllers. The basic set can then be expanded with additions of different track pieces, cars, lap counting equipment and scenery. Modifications are also available to enhance the performance of the cars. Two standard sizes of Slot car are available. AFX is a smaller system scaled at 1:87. This results in a car approximately 5cm long. AFX allows for a more interesting track in a smaller area.

Scalectrix and SCX are bigger at a scale of 1:32. The cars are about 15cm long. This system concentrates on driving skill as each car design will react differently to each other.
